How to choose a good spinning rod? A guide for predator anglers
Choosing the right spinning rod depends primarily on the species of fish you intend to catch and the type of lures you will be using. Modern spinning rods are made from high-modulus carbon fiber, which gives them incredible lightness and flexibility. A well-chosen rod not only allows for long and precise casts but, most importantly, guarantees perfect feeling of the lure's action and instantaneous signaling of even the most delicate "nibble" from a predator.
In our fishing store, you will find a wide selection of rods adapted to various spinning techniques – from ultralight fishing for whitefish and perch, to heavy pike fishing using powerful soft plastics or jerkbaits.
Key parameters of spinning rods:
- Casting Weight (CW) – defines the optimal weight of lures that can be cast safely and comfortably. We distinguish ultralight spinning rods (e.g., 0.5-5g) for perch, medium (e.g., 5-25g) as all-purpose rods, and heavy (over 30-40g) for large pike and catfish.
- Rod Length – short rods (1.90m - 2.20m) are perfect for fishing from a boat and on heavily overgrown, small rivers. Longer rods (2.40m - 2.70m and more) are an ideal choice for shore fishing on large rivers and lakes, where every meter of casting distance matters.
- Rod Action – determines how the rod bends under load. Fast/Extra Fast action bends mainly in the tip section, which facilitates aggressive twitching of lures (e.g., zander jigging). Moderate/Slow action bends deeper, absorbing the struggles of fighting fish and preventing them from escaping (e.g., when catching chub or trout).
